Welcome on our Website

We : 'Du Pic de Pioulou'

It was in the early 1990’s that we first got acquainted with the Pyrenean sheep dog:

The breed appealed to us right away as it seemed ideal as to its size and other qualities that we recognised in this little shepherd. Since we are fond of sports, this breed seemed an ideal choice. We started our hunt in books, dogshows, dogclubs, and finally with the breeders. We were decided, we had made up our minds, this little shepherd had stolen our hearts and thus we got on a waiting list with two breeders.

About one year later the first one:  Rancka joined our family.

And about fourteen months later, a second bitch, Rouspette, was received with open arms.

When only four months old, both little dogs  were allowed to accompany us to the dog training school.  There they proved that they were eager to learn and that they enjoyed working for their owner.

We participated in several shows, both nationally and internationally, to present this breed to the many visitors there  because it remained a relatively rare breed.  Our young bitches were well liked, the results did not lie.  Hence the idea grew that we should have a little nest.  Also the demand for a pup of one of our dogs  started us thinking about breeding our bitches.

The name of the kennel ‘Du Pic De Pioulou’ is derived from that of a mountain in the Pyrenean in the Haute Vallee de l’Ariege near Tarascon-Sur-Ariege.

The height of the mountain is 2166 m.  The mountain nearest by is better known De Pic Des Trois Seigneurs (2199m).

At the end of 1966 we were all set: both our bitches had their first nest.

As it is we are working with a waiting list such that future owners may have to exercise some patience before getting a pup  New owners receive from us the necessary documents , guidance, counselling and support so that well informed they can raise their pups.

With this website we want to acquaint all Pyrenean sheep dog fanatics (future owners and dog lovers) with our dogs and their friends.

Here also you will find the official description of the breed, photos of our dogs, photos of the pups, news bits…
